Hojat-ol-Islam Mohsen Hakim Elahi, director of the Islamic center, told IQNA that the ceremony began with recitation of verses from the Quran by Vahid Heidari, winner of the recitation category in the previous edition of the contest.
It was followed by a speech by Hojat-ol-Islam Hakim Elahi who welcomed the participants and called for development of Quranic activities in other Quranic centers in the region.
The opening ceremony also featured an Ibtihal recitation performance by Hossein Heidarzadeh.
Next, Rahmatollah Bayat, on behalf of the panel of judges, explained about the regulations of the competition and the way contestants are scored.
At the end of the ceremony, the participants said their Maghrib and Isha prayers led by Hojat-ol-Islam Hakim Elahi.
According to organizers, the competition is aimed at promoting the Quranic culture and teachings, identifying Quranic talents, and enhancing unity among the Quranic community in Northern Europe.
It also serves as a venue for Quran reciters and memorizers to exchange their Quranic experiences.
92 Quran activists from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland compete in the Quranic event.
Quran recitation, Tarteel, memorization, Azan (call to prayers) and Quranic concepts are the categories of the contest.
5 Quran experts from Denmark, Germany, Iran, Sweden and the Netherlands make up the event’s panel of judges.
